The Yorkshire Dales is rich in beautiful grasslands, limestone pavement, woodlands, rivers and streams and moorland. Famous for the clints and grikes of its limestone pavements to the north of Malham and around Ingleborough, both these areas will be high on the list of sites to visit. Local woodlands are rich in special flora and form some of England’s most impressive bluebell woods. Rough grassland, blanket bog and great swathes of heather cover nearly all the high ground of the Dales with damp grassland and bog - often dominated by cotton grass - being home to several species of upland wader such as curlew, snipe and redshank. The heather moorland is usually managed for grouse, but is important too for bilberry, cowberry, cloudberry, merlin, golden plover and even adders. Staying at
