What equipment and clothing should I bring? PDF Print E-mail
As you will know, the weather in Britain is unpredictable. To ensure that you get the best from your walking holiday, you should ensure that you are properly equipped.
The following list is a guide to what we consider essential:
Waterproof jacket and overtrousers (raingear)
Boots or strong walking shoes with cleated soles and ankle support
Thick socks for use inside walking boots
Small rucksack/back pack
Comfortable trousers (not denim fabric as this becomes heavy, cold and uncomfortable when wet)
Extra sweater or fleece/pile jacket
Waterbottle and/or flask
Warm hat and gloves
Sun hat and sunscreen

Other items which are not essential, but which you might like to consider:
Shorts
Small foam ‘sit mat’
Trekking poles or walking stick
Relevant maps, plus waterproof map case
Camera, plus spare batteries and film
Binoculars
This above list is for the walking side of the holiday and we presume that guests will bring comfortable casual wear for use during the evenings and on the free day. For the evening meals, smart casual wear is acceptable and, other than at Christmas and New Year, none of the hotels insist upon gentlemen wearing a jacket and tie.
